Jack Hawkins, Troy U.
Bama 88, that was one outstanding, well thought out post!! five star!!
Good question parent. Fall 2011 is what the PACT admins. say would be the time frame for refunds.
If you have facebook, here is a good dicussion on that subject.
Plan B was, is, and will be our court system. The legislators know that expensive lawsuits are coming if they don't get this done NOW. And, I suspect that our University and AEA leaders will support any proposal w/out caps (like HB775) and attempt to help get votes from non-PACT owners from their various support groups.
I agree KB, that will be our action if it does not pass, we will be out of time by then.
No link, but in the mail today I get a nice glossy brochure from Jay Gouge and Robert Witt. Same Op Ed article that they had all the newspapers in the state run, but now they have paid to have this done, plus paid to send it to every household in Alabama.
Did HB775 get modified yesterday. The news report said "The state government would cover any shortfall." Is this true? If so this is fantastic.
Yes, it would have to be voted on, but there's no reason for our Universities to oppose this, and in fact they should endorse it because it guarantees the students will be coming and that they would receiv full tuition.
As long as they would put out the word with vigor like they did this past week, then maybe, but I still think it is a crap shoot. They need to have a BIG PLAN B if it does not pass.
The big thing in his bill is it would have to be voted on by the people of alabama, and with all the garbage that both Alabama and Auburn put out in the past few weeks, it would not pass. THEN we are back to square one,and out of time.

State treasurer race, Boozer vs Wallace, each talk about PACT.
"For PACT to work, we understand the investments overseen by the PACT board need to generate about 8.5 percent in annual returns."
And Auburn, and the UA system goes up each year 9% or more on tution.
Yes, Auburn is going up 14% on tution.
Did anyone go to this, and if so what was said if anything about PACT.

You may not be able to read this, but Senator Shelby was asked about helping with 2.3 million dollars for a fine arts center in Decatur. He said right now he wants to put a "BILLION DOLLARS" into the U of A system to help with math, science, engineering programs. They have already earmarked 700 million. He would then see if he could help after that.
The U of A system gets 1.7 BILLION dollars in earmarked funds, but can not keep tution down for students in its own system. Unreal.
KB, you are correct, and the person that has championed that bill for roads is Lowell Barron, who has told Patti he will not let the House bill make it to the floor of the senate. ( Mr. Barron is a former Auburn Trustee)
I think you would be correct. I think the schools thinking would be, if they put a cap on this, then they will want to put a cap on something else. The schools do not want to give up one ounce of power.
Thank you for putting that up KB. Page 7 and 8 says it all about the how the laws where changed. Great find!!
Scott, the PACT board was set up by the state of alabama, it has its logo on every piece of information. I am sorry you feel this way, but back in 1991 when I looked at trying to set up education for my children, I looked at several options. PACT was sold to us then, as that your childs tution would be paid for. We still had to come up with the other monies to cover, books, housing, and food, but PACT was sold as guaranteed, by the state of alabama.
Why, one would ask, would the BOD whom have powers directed by legislation already, need a court ruling?
I agree on this, why would they need a court ruling? I assume that it is a change in the contract, in how they make payments due to the fact they are supposed to pay ALL tution, not just partial which is NOW what they plan to do.
