Topic: Scholarships will now cancel your PACT contract

One of the new proposed rules will force cancellation of your PACT contract if your son or daughter receives a full scholarship.....apparently partial scholarships are not included.  What happens if the scholarship is lost?  Now you will have no scholarship and no PACT benefits.  My son would not be in school if he did not receive his scholarship.  HAVE THEY LOST THEIR MINDS????

Could this possibly be a ploy to force the legislature to act on fixing the program before the fall 2010 semester?  Would they be that stupid?  We have already been told the fund has enough monies to run for several years.

comments?

Re: Scholarships will now cancel your PACT contract

The only way this is going to get fixed is for the Court to order it per the class action suits.

Re: Scholarships will now cancel your PACT contract

Why should the PACT Board care about scholarships? We all paid the same for a contract and should all get treated equally - even if we have to each take a pro rata reduction (which I don't agree with).

The scholarship offset is assanine. It is basically stealing money from those that have earned it by being academically spectacular, and then giving it to others who might have failed to perform at the same level. Why? Why not simply pass another law that says that the only people who get PACT payments are those who cannot otherwise afford college, and force us to each apply for PACT tuition reimbursement as a source of financial aid? Because that would be ridiculous, too!

I agree with highspeed; we need to sue. This is clearly a breach of contract. We need to move quickly with a class action plan. I'm in.

Re: Scholarships will now cancel your PACT contract

Anyone done any research on the average time from a class action being recognized by the courts to pay out to the class?

Someone look it up and post the answer here for consideration.

Re: Scholarships will now cancel your PACT contract

You guys are sue happy. I can't say how long it would take but from seeing other cases at my wire office handles I would say few years not over night. Anyway the board ruling hasn't passed all steps yet.

I haven't seen anybody yet to point out the fact that Kay will be out of her post next term and there will be a new voice. If you don't won't her in the state get out and vote. I was once told by rep. " Good politics and good policy often overlap".  There's about 46,000 contract with PACT.  I would say that maybe there is a 100,000 votes connected to them. That could change a lot of faces in the state.

Keep pointing this out to them. The board isn't the only ones who can change things for us. I email with my reps often and at least they seem to be on the same page about the whole thing.

Sue only when all else has failed and it hasn't yet.
