Topic: Paying Tuition

So far, so good...

If you have "Access to Your Account" on their web site under "Current Participants," you can check payments to the colleges.

Looking at ours, it was interesting to note that Fall 08 UA tuition was paid 10/28/08, Fall 08 Shelton State was paid 12/04/08, Spring 09 UA was paid 03/17/09, but Spring 09 Shelton does not show paid.  Shelton's account shows a credit for it with the transaction listed as "Vouchered By:  HDI SOLUTIONS INC."

Re: Paying Tuition

Sheila-

Each school has to bill PACT once they have settled all the charges - and they are sure they are charging for the correct # of hours and fee charges, etc. So - the delay that you are seeing may just be that Shelton State is delayed in getting processes completed. They may also bill in stages - depends on their Business Office.

It sounds like this HDI, I believe it was, is a company that assists in the billing and payment processes for Alabama PACT - thus outsourcing that portion of the work that is required to handle the program.

Re: Paying Tuition

I am not sure if you want only problems here or not.

If you want any kind of comment:  My daughter just finished her first year at Auburn and all payments by PACT to AU have been handled in a very satisfactory manner.  It is (or should I say was - in August/Sept 08 and Dec08/Jan09) an awesome feeling to know, when you get that bill from AU, that the PACT prgoram was going to take care of the biggest part!

I want everybody who has a PACT contract to know that feeling!

Re: Paying Tuition

We have had PACT accounts for both our children. Our son was one of the first enrollees in 1990 at age 6. PACT took care of all his tuition and most of his fees at Montevallo 2001-2005. We paid summer-term fees because PACT pays fees only 8 times. We wanted him to get finished sooner and go summers. Not a bad investment for only $63/month.

We enrolled our daughter as a newborn in 1991, and were feeling VERY good about our $44/month investment until February. Fortunately, she has a full tuition/fee scholarship. But we're praying the PACT will come through so we can use the scholarship for room, board, and books.

Since not every enrollee is going to go to college this fall, some are only infants, I think if it can be managed properly and the economy improves, things will be OK. They don't have to pay out for everyone at once right now.

Re: Paying Tuition

Seems a small part of solving the problem is extrapolating and speculating when students will need the money as they have up to ten years to use the PACT funds. A small yet another variable in the big equation Bronner is trying to solve.

Einstein once said, 'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.'

Re: Paying Tuition

Our oldest son graduated from the University of North Alabama in May. The PACT system worked extremely well with no problems for us.

Each year there was an increase in the amount of fees that were charged by the University that PACT did not pay, but I do not feel that it was excessive.

I wish there was a list of those fees not paid by PACT from each school prior to each semester. The types of fees paid and not paid by PACT seems very vague in our contract.

Yongest son graduates high school  in 2011. I hope PACT will be there for him!

Re: Paying Tuition

The AU ebill for first semester was lovely. I agree with Sinclair who wishes all PACT contract holders could have the good feeling.

PACT billed for fees and tuition. Scholarships covered room and food. AND money left over for books. No other money due. WOW! big_smile
