Topic: PACT Participant Location

In an attempt to organize ourselves please either post your location on the Facebook group by area - or on here. We do not want your address - only a city, state.

We would like to get together our participants with a region 'captain' and also be able to contact you when we get calls for media relations for a specific area of the state.

Lets get this together and be productive!

Here we go...

I will MARCH with you on the 20th!

Re: PACT Participant Location

Welcome sherry to the forum...do you know others in the Dothan area with PACT contracts that you could rally?

Hi, I'm Meleah Jurasek and I live in Mobile, Al.  My son is suppose to be a sophmore in the fall.  I have written email after email, and letter after letter with little response from our legislators.  I am so glad to have found this group.  I heard about it on NPR.  Count me in!

We have 2 PACT contracts.  And what does the word "Pre-Paid" mean anyhow!!!!!!!!

My oldest daughter just finished first year at Auburn on the program   And then we have 6 more years before my other daughter needs hers.

Thank you so much for this effort!

Re: PACT Participant Location

Greetings

I am Robert H; residing in Madison.  I regret only discovering this website today-I saw the report on the Huntsville television news-WHNT.  I have 2 PACT contracts-one for a soon to be sophomore in college and another for a sophomore at Bob Jones.  I would LOVE to assist in spearheading a group in my area.

Thanks for taking action, everyone!

Re: PACT Participant Location

My name is Greg.  I live in Huntsville.  We have 2 PACT contracts.  One purchased in 1996 and the other purchased in 2001.  We are particularly concerned since much of the talk has centered around preserving the contracts up to 1995.  Like everyone else we at least thought we had the childrens' college taken care of with PACT.

Re: PACT Participant Location

Frank and Teri live in Hueytown. We've promoted PACT membership to friends for years. We've had 2 contracts, one since 1990 and the other since 1991.

We used it for our son at Montevallo 2001-2005.

We have a contract for our daughter graduating hs class of 2009. Glad to see the fall and spring semesters are to be paid.

I think we need to look HARD at the fund management in the future. As the economy improves, the amount should go back up, IF properly managed.

Since the penalties for withdrawing funds are so steep, if not rolled over to a 529 or some such, we're keeping our money in. If the BOD dissolves it, I guess then we'll have to change our investment, but she'll be using the money over the next 4 years, so not much opportunity for it to grow.

We own 2 PACT Plans.  We currently have a son who is about to start his Sr year @ UA and our daughter will be starting UA in the Fall of 2010.  We welcome any opportunity to get involved in a group effort to help save PACT.

We own 2 PACT contracts purchased in 2001 for our two boys currently ages 13 & 10.  Although we are 5-6 years away from our oldest entering college, we do not plan to sit quietly on this one.  We initially invested in the mutual funds upon the birth of our oldest, but after watching the ups and mostly downs of the market over a five year period, then decided to purchase PACT contracts.  I wish we had known this site existed so we could have gotten involved sooner.  I emailed Governor Riley's office this morning urging him to proceed with a special legislative session to if nothing else to stress the sense of urgency this situation deserves.  We do not need to wait until the 2010 session!

Re: PACT Participant Location

Thank you, Patti and Richard, for your organization of and participation in an effort to save the Pact Program.

My wife Alice and I may hold the record for owning the largest number of Alabama Pact Program contracts--seven (7)--for our grandchildren, ages 19 down to 3 years of age, total investment of almost eighty thousand dollars.  The oldest granddaughter used the Pact Program last year at Delta State and, hopefully, will be able to do so for three more years.  The next contract we own would be up for use in 3 years.

As you can see by the amount of investment we have in the Alabama Pact Program, we are extremely interested in pursuing a successful outcome for the Pact Program.   We have been in contact with our friend and senator, Bobby Denton, but only recently learned about your group.  We'd like to hear from you.

In case you are organizing by location, our residence is in Florence, AL.

Re: PACT Participant Location

My name is Rhonda, and I'm from Russellville, Franklin County, just south of Florence.  My oldest daughter just finished her first year at University of Alabama (and I'm anxiously holding my breath for the coming year), and my next daughter will be entering college in the fall of 2011.

Re: PACT Participant Location

Thank you for joining Rhonda--and welcome!
Please share the news of SaveAlabamaPACT with others in your area -- we have a limited known PACT holders and supporters in the Florence area.

Toby Barnes
Formerly of Decatur, Morgan County.

Signed up my 5 year old son as a PACT beficiary/participant since 1990. He just graduated Class of 2009 after four years of using the account proceeds to supplement his out of state, private school tuition.
Payments to the University were generally timely or typically were received during each term.

Best wishes for an early resolution of this predicament and to correct the management of the fund to deliver a successful outcome for all involved.

Regards,
Toby

Re: PACT Participant Location

I am trying to find people from Madison County.  I would like to have your name, address, phone numbers, email address, and number of contracts you have in order to form a new data base for this area.   At this moment I am only interested in Madison County Pact holders.  I've been asked to be a leader in Huntsville and I am trying to get an idea as to what I'm dealing with.  I feel the group should encompass all of Madison County.  If this group turns out to be too large, we can split it later.  I'm sure there are a lot more qualified people out there to take this on.  I have not made a decision yet.  I feel I can be of help in a lot of other ways too.  I can write a "mean" letter to the editor, not to mention the governor, reps, senators, etc.  smile  My biggest drawback is that I don't have the stamina I used to.  If there is someone in this county that would really like to head this up (and has some organizational skills) please let me know.  Maybe we need co-leaders??  I will make my decision after I hear from you Madison County folks.  I was thinking that maybe each community, ie, Madison, Hazel Green, Meridianville, New Market, Tony, Gurley, New Hope, Owens Cross Roads, etc., etc., may have a "captain" to assist the leader (whoever that will be).  Maybe one captain could represent several communities if there aren't that many PACT holders in them.  Maybe  we could have a get acquainted/brainstorming meeting somewhere.   I'm just thinking out loud.

By the way, I put my "yard sign" in my back car window... looks very good.  Also, I have a son here in Huntsville who has just started a new venture in this area.  He produces a newspaper (free to the public) entitled "Rockert City Youth Sports Review".  The paper has just come out and is being very well received and is in stands all around Huntsville.  It is dedicated to elementary, middle and highschool youth sports of all kinds.  He is going to insert a public service announcement at no charge using the PACT yard sign for the artwork.  Hopefully this will be another way of reaching people.

By the way, one of my grandchildren, a highschool senior this fall, casually mentioned that 5 or 6 people he knew at Buckhorn High School said they would be going to college using PACTS.  Apparently, they had not the slightest knowledge of any problem.  EEEK!
