(as a side issue, I will work to help defeat Alvin Holmes in his next election even tho I'm not from his district. I will travel and hand out flyers if I have to. I am really angry.)

Please, please go to www.savealabamapact.com and see the misery of the people. We are so disappointed and disgusted with the Alabama legislators and with Alvin Holmes in particular. I will work to defeat him in his next election run even tho he is not in my district. We need publicity. The fiasco in Montgomery needs to be addressed.

This is ridiculous, only guaranteeing plans bought before 1995. They are just trying to cover their butts, without actually having to do something for real.

"I didn't reply all because you have put so much energy into this fight. I am PARENTSofTWO on the site and my wife attended the initial meeting in Montgomery. The site can probably gererate money from the hits received and from soliciting donations from us. Don't get me wrong I know the main point is to get the legislature to fund it, but if we organize and get funds we can fight better fights. We can defeat those that are against us and run ads for the continuing battles. I don't know how to do all the legal work or have any experience in this type thing but it can't be that hard. Do you think that is a good idea or have youand the other founders of the pact site already discussed it? I think in todays politics we have to have money to be more effective. There are probably lawyers on the site and others that could organize this thing. Thanks for all your help I know it's a labor of love for those you are trying to put through school. My interpretation, please correct me, Let's rush something through and forget about any PACT contracts after 1995....are you kidding??????
The amendment KILLED any interest in the rest of the bill.
This is HB 747 amended if anyone is confused here...Holmes would not accept without the amendment to only honor contracts through 1995....

Tenrocdoc, your guess is as good as mine. I'm really disappointed in not receiving a more thorough explanation of what he thinks can be accomplished. I will definitely write him again and see if I can get anything more out of him.
As to Holmes, you really don't want to hear me expound on my thoughts of Holmes. I really meant that I will do everything in my power to see that he gets defeated next election. I need to find out when he will next be running. Anyone know?

Obviously Alvin Holmes does not want this bill to pass; he knows full well that the bill as amended is not acceptable to most PACT contract holders, and therefore has no chance of passing.
Mr. Holmes considers any $ used to rescue PACT as welfare for wealthy white folks and truthfully does not support PACT for that reason. The only reason he put in language to honor the pre-1995 contracts is because he knows that legally the State is on the hook for those contracts. If not for that he would do everything in his power to kill any PACT rescue.
I (probably like most other PACT holders) am not wealthy and absolutely struggled to pay for a PACT for my child (I bought in 1994 before the "guarantee" was removed). My child is currently a high school freshman, so I have a little time to see what type of solution the legislature can pass.
I have been patient so far with this whole mess; however, if nothing is done soon, I will not hesitate to file a lawsuit against the State, the PACT board, and PACT board members personally, for not only my child's tuition, but also legal fees and any and all punitive damages possible.
If the State does not honor my contract AS WRITTEN, they have in my opinion committed a fraud and I intend to seek any and all legal remedies at my disposal.
