Random thoughts.....Is it legal or moral for the Pact Board to use our BABIES MONEY to defend themselves in COURT...???? If we were ever made to go to court ...I will NOT forget to Take Todays Decatur Daily... Millions spent by Al. and Au. for everything else .. but not one penny for ALABAMA"S Children. Not one idea , no plan ,no compromise , no attempt to find a possible solution.. Please search your heart. and please be willing to try to find a solution...a bandaid will not do...No one should have to beg anyone to do the Right thing..These were contracts entered into with Good Faith.. Imagine what these children will take from this mess. That is just ok and we are sorry that your family sacrificed to be able to provide you an education....then some of your ELECTED OFFICALS turned their backs on YOU--- Alabama's Children. Al and Au are happy to take your money but could care less about YOU...After all it seems and I have been told that " it is all about the money"....I hope that those who vote against us- for them that they are running unopposed ...we will make a difference in the voting booth.. Families that pre-pay tuition for their loved ones do not miss the chance to VOTE.....If colleges can accept (it is their right) to accept 50 mile radius students at" in state fees "giving up app. 32 M in tuition (whose families do not pay taxes in Alabama)... ...have all kinds of tuition waivers, ect....All that is being asked... Do the right thing.. We need State House votes for Pact Bills with 2.5 floating cap to educate all contracts.. we need this to be passed in this session....

You may not be able to read this, but Senator Shelby was asked about helping with 2.3 million dollars for a fine arts center in Decatur. He said right now he wants to put a "BILLION DOLLARS" into the U of A system to help with math, science, engineering programs. They have already earmarked 700 million. He would then see if he could help after that.
The U of A system gets 1.7 BILLION dollars in earmarked funds, but can not keep tution down for students in its own system. Unreal.

I went to the Town Hall meeting last night to speak with Senator Keahey. He said that of the emails/calls he has gotten on the PACT issue 50% are in support of the bills, and 50% are against supporting the bills. We urgently need folks to call Keahey and let him know we need his support. He didn’t say he would support HB228 with the caps, but said he was open to anything to get a solution. I met Mrs. Braden at the meeting, also. There were only 6 of us there in support of the PACT bills. Afterwards, a gentleman approached me and asked about it. He seemed to think that we just rolled the dice when we purchased the PACTs. He really didn’t think the state was obligated to pay for our kids educations. We tried to convince him that this contract was just that…a contract. Seems like a lot of folks don’t really care about this issue, unless it directly affects their kids.
We sure need folks to stand up and be heard!

Opinion Article from Alabama and Auburn Presidents...
3/30/10: Alabama Voices: Solution for PACT in bill
"For PACT to work, we understand the investments overseen by the PACT board need to generate about 8.5 percent in annual returns."
And Auburn, and the UA system goes up each year 9% or more on tution.

State treasurer race, Boozer vs Wallace, each talk about PACT.
No link, but in the mail today I get a nice glossy brochure from Jay Gouge and Robert Witt. Same Op Ed article that they had all the newspapers in the state run, but now they have paid to have this done, plus paid to send it to every household in Alabama.
Jack Hawkins, Troy U.
Someone needs to look into whether or not the PACT program contracts could actually be considered a Security. It appears to me that the Pact contract that parents received could possibly be considered an "investment contract" as defined by the Alabama Securities Act. Just curious, has anyone thought of approaching the Director of the Securities Commission, as to whether or not the misrepresentations made during the sale of the investment contracts is a violation of the Securities Act and therefore a felony?
If it isn't why?
What determines whether or not it is or isn't a security?
